Questions About Level 2 EV Charger Installation?

What’s the difference between a Level 1 and Level 2 EV charger?
Level 1 and Level 2 EV chargers differ in charging speed and voltage. Level 1 chargers use a standard 120V outlet and can take 11-20 hours to charge your car, offering only 4 miles of driving range per hour of charging. Level 2 chargers operate on a higher voltage of 240V and can charge your car in 3-8 hours, providing up to 32 miles of driving range per hour of charging. Upgrading to a Level 2 charger is a smart investment as it offers the convenience of having your own “gas pump” in your garage, ready when you need it, and can also help you save on electricity costs by allowing you to charge during lower rate times.
How is the type of Level 2 EV charger chosen for installation?
We provide a list of chargers here [anchor link to products] that can fit your electrical capacity, budget, and electric vehicle needs. We recommend purchasing through us to ensure compatibility and warranty coverage. Customers may purchase on their own, but it is not recommended.
Are you able to guarantee that my home can have an EV charging station?
While our electricians have installed EV charging stations in many types of homes, there are some instances where we are not able to. If you live in an apartment or condominium complex and cannot get permission from the building owner and/or management, Level2EV cannot move forward. Also, we cannot move forward if our electricians determine that you have an insufficient electric panel capacity with no option to upgrade.
Can I have multiple charging stations installed in the same location at my house?
Yes, Level2EV’s charging stations have load management capabilities that regulate the electrical load applied to the circuit from the chargers, allowing for the installation of multiple units.
Can I leave my electric vehicle charging unattended?
Yes, Level 2 EV charging stations are designed to stop the transfer of electricity to the vehicle when the car is completely charged. Because the transfer of electricity will automatically stop, your vehicle can stay plugged in overnight as well.
Do I need to prepare or do anything prior to the installation?
To prepare for the installation appointment, the customer should ensure that the installation area and the location of the plug to be installed is accessible and clear of any obstructions.
What if I have a detached garage?
If you are planning to charge your vehicle in an external building or detached garage, you may need to run electricity to it. This could involve extra services like trenching, for which we can provide an additional quote upon assessment of the installation site. However, customers may also choose to have this done by an external contractor of their choice.
What happens during the installation appointment?
The installation appointment typically involves:
  • Assessing the installation site.
  • Preparing the necessary wiring and connections.
  • Installing the EV charger.
  • Testing the charger and demonstrating its usage to the customer. Most installations are completed in a single visit.
Do you require a deposit or have a cancellation policy?
We have a 48-hour cancellation policy, and a down payment of 8-10% of the total bill or a flat fee of $80 is required to secure the installation appointment. In case of a no-show, we offer one rescheudling at your convenience.
Do you offer a warranty on your Level 2 EV charging installations?
We offer a one-year labor warranty, which does not cover the cost of parts or charging unit maintenance. Service call prices will vary depending on the issue or parts needed, following a diagnostic test to determine the issue with the EV charger. At Level2EV, we value customer satisfaction and strive to deliver the highest quality of service. Our work quality guarantee demonstrates our commitment to delivering the best experience for our customers.
How do you determine your free quotes for Level 2 EV charger installations?
Our expert team uses a variety of factors and information to give you the most accurate quote possible. The main variables that factor into your quote are:
  • Cost of the EV charger
  • Labor charges
  • Potential additional equipment or services (such as trenching)
